We
call our first step the Programming Phase. Here, the team discusses
the physical concepts and identifies all unique project requirements.
This is like designing the building verbally before we design it
visually. It causes you, the client, to make decisions early and
gives the team a clearly defined understanding of design direction
and performance requirements. We all know where we are going before
we start drawing. We develop an understanding of your needs and
answer those needs in the most productive way.
Each
project is an opportunity. We can only do this project once: we
want it to be the best.
Our
programming effort centers on five key elements:
-
Function
- Form
- Economy
- Time
- Energy
Each
element is further refined by identifying specific goals, facts,
needs, and budget. The information gathered ranges from tangible
data such as specific room sizes to abstract goals of image and
subconscious response.
The
programming document is a tool, not an end product. It is made to
be modified on the fly as information is received and analyzied.
